TWICKENHAM DOLL CLUB NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2010
The next meeting of the Twickenham Doll Club will be Tuesday, November 19, 2010 at 7:30 PM at the East Huntsville Baptist Church, 808 Maysville Rd., Huntsville, AL. Shirley Mears is recuperating from a fall and will not be able to present her program. All of us send our good wishes for her speedy recovery.
Sonya Heim has graciously agreed to step in and present a program on "Anna Brahm Dolls". Ms. Brahm is a wonderful art doll artist so this program should be very interesting.
Refreshments will be furnished by Denise and Vicki Mooren. The theme for Ann Estelle this month will be "Ann wears her favorite apron and bakes cookies."
GUEST - Barbara Wilson has submitted her application for membership and has attended two meetings. She will bring 10 dolls at the November meeting and tell the members something about them. (Note - Barbara was the first president of the doll club) We are very excited to have her back.
CLUB BUSINESS Betty Fronefield has chosen Taranova Restaurant, 1420 Paramount Dr., Huntsville for the Christmas Luncheon. The date is Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. She has finalized the menu and the choices are Fettucine Alfredo with grilled chicken or Romano Mandarin Salad with grilled chicken. The cost is $16.50 including beverage and dessert. Please bring your check to the meeting and indicate on your check which menu item you prefer. The members are to buy a gift for Ann Estelle with a value of $10.00. Ann should be dressed in her finest Christmas outfit. If anyone would like to suggest a fun game, please let Betty know.
DOLL SHOW We are looking at a date of August 13, 2011 for the doll show. Show Chairperson, Vicki Kendall, has spoken with the Jaycee's Hall representative and should have no problem getting the facility. Final arrangements will be made at the beginning of January 2011. Several people have already volunteered to be on the committee but there are a few openings left.
Please consider helping with the following positions and let Vicki know at the meeting:
Person to collect and file taxes
Sally Spurgeon and Sonya Heim have collected quite a number of dolls for the helper table and Sandra Page informed the club that she still has some mini-Ginnys that could be used also.
Vicki Kendall suggested that we do a "Toys for Tots" theme for the education table. These are dolls that we will fix up and redress to be donated at Christmas. Perhaps the newspaper would write a story about the dolls and what we are doing for Christmas charity.
At Pamela Powell's suggestion, we voted to put money aside for future luncheons. Barbara Griffin suggested a regional luncheon would be nice and we could plan that for some time in 2012. If anyone has suggestions for programs for next year, please let Sonya know at the meeting.
Two video programs were talked about: a video program on Ginny dolls presented by Barbara Griffin and a video program on "Les Petites Dames de Mode" presented by Obelia McCaulley. Some of us have seen this program before, but it is such a beautiful presentation that I know we will want to see it again.
We need to fill the program slots and refreshments slots for next year. If you did not volunteer this year, please do so for 2011. It's not fair for the same people to always volunteer and everyone must participate if we are to have a great club.
We had a wonderful time at Rosa Belle's Birthday Party; I think just as much fun as Rosa Belle. As always, Kathleen Collins did a magnificent job with the cake and decorations. Her talent has no bounds. Members provided food and drinks, and Rosa Belle was given many cards and gifts. Thanks everyone. Please see pictures at "twickenhamdollclub.blogspot.com".
The club has a new website. Please check it out at "http://twickenhamdollclub.webs.com"
